Been to Barka a few times now and always a pleasant experience. I find their menu to have a lot of different things that sound very tasty. I always go for the scallops which are nicely done and you also get risotto with crab meat and asparagus a good bonus. They serve some good rolls with a hummus style dip and olives which was yummy. The cocktails on the menu I feel don't really mesh with the mediterranean vibe but they're alright, wish there was more variety like their food menu. Service is always good!
Excellent food. Five star service. Perfect for an anniversary dinner. It was a relaxed atmosphere very nice and skilled waiters.
I took my family here for Mother's Day and we had a wonderful experience. All of the food was delicious and the portions were decently sized, if not more on the large side. You can taste the freshness in the sauce and the herb seasoning, not just salt. The service was also amazing and the interior was very clean and elegant. Highly recommend!
My wife and I have been driving past Barka for years saying "that place looks good" but for some reason or another we never dined there. Finally, tonight, I made a reservation for our anniversary dinner. Uneven, would be the word that best describes our experience. The dining area is quite nice. Definitely an upscale vibe. Several half moon booths around the sides of the main dining room with tables in the center. The next thing I noticed was the music. It was standard house music which is fine for a bar or a club. But here, it seemed to be a poor choice. The constant bass thump didn't match the room or the clientele. Maybe I'm just getting old? The service was uneven. They appear to have plenty of servers. Yet, we were seated at our table for around 10 minutes until our waiter greeted us. At which point we ordered our drinks. About 10 minutes later our waiter took our order for apps and mains. Five minutes later our drinks and appetizers came out at the exact same time. It would have been nice if things were spaced a bit more. Drinks first, followed by apps a few minutes later. For apps we split the Barka salad which was essentially a simple Greek salad. It was alright, but quite small when considering the cost. We also had the crab cake which was the stand out dish of the evening. Lots of crab with very little filler. Five star crab cake. For drinks my wife ordered the Barka mule which was excellent. I ordered a Heineken. Not a fave, but their beer list is very limited. It took us around 15 minutes to finish our apps and drinks and we then sat there for another 30 minutes waiting for our main courses. I ordered the Branzino and my wife ordered the filet mignon. The fish was expertly filleted, well prepared and delicious with a caveat that I will mention shortly. The filet was a little disappointing but acceptable. Not a grade A filet in my opinion. Served on top of a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. Not much of a presentation but no big deal. The issue with both dishes was that they came out luke warm. Not even close to hot or optimal. Which means to me that both dishes were sitting for quite a while before they were served. I didn't complain because reheating isn't a desirable option and a replacement order would have taken too long. With that said we did finish everything. Waste not, want not. Finally, desert. We ordered cappuccino which was on point and the New York cheesecake. It really wasn't NY style cheesecake. It wasn't soft and creamy. It was more like Italian style. Firm and dense with lemon flavor. It was probably very good for an Italian cheesecake. But our expectations were NY style and we aren't huge fans of Italian style. With all that said we still managed to finish every last bite. Overall it was an uneven experience, but not bad. I will probably dine at Barka again in the future but I'm not in any rush to return. Three and one half stars.
Hands down, this is one of our favorite places to dine. Some faves are the seared tuna, Village Greek salad, octopus salad, and roasted beets.
We came here for a friend's birthday party. The moment we walked in the restaurant, I felt that this place is special. The decor is beautiful and they also have rooms for parties that's where we were. I cannot believe how good the food is especially given it is buffet style. The food was fresh. Fried calamari was perfection and the steak was rare in the middle. The salmon and shrimp were excellent, grilled veggie had just the right amount of seasonings. The coffee was very smooth and the desserts are amazing, especially the key lime pie. The bartender was super nice as well. My wife and I said to each other we will definitely come back for our next family gathering.
Attended a wedding reception here, which was my first visit. The food was great overall, and it looks like they have a lot of special event menu options at different rates. I tried all of the apps, which came out at a good pace. They included caprese, shrimp arrabiatta, grilled artichokes, zucchini and eggplant chips, and clams oreganata. The shrimp arrabiatta and zucchini/eggplant chips were my favorites. For dinner, I selected the filet mignon, and my husband had to get the 20oz ribeye, which is never seen as a wedding menu choice. I did prefer the ribeye, which was more flavorful than the filet (fat = flavor). The salad was decent but didn't have mango as advertised. There was a huge plate of decadent desserts that we sampled (apps and desserts were all served family style at the table). I'm not sure if the cake was restaurant made. I'd come back to try the other food, the main restaurant was positively buzzing, and the seafood smelled incredible. It is a pretty big restaurant.
Five stars, even though I didn't love every appetizer we ordered this place is a gem. The decor is beautiful and the restaurant is immaculate. This definitely is a special occasion restaurant that I feel rivals Rails. We had started with the mussels (didn't love the red sauce, a few were unopened as well), clams orgenata (my pick and disappointed, it just was ok), shrimp arabiata (fantastic) and the crab cake (it's one crab cake that was just ok, for $22 it could have been better). Dinner however we all enjoyed. My brother's lobster was massive, my scallops with the amazing asparagus risotto was outstanding, the filet is huge and perfectly seasoned & cooked, the ahi tuna is beautiful presentation wise and the scampi sauce for the shrimp scampi was excellent. I would love to return, a great experience overall.
It had been a few years since I was last at Barka. Last night, my wife and I met friends there for dinner. While I liked the restaurant previously, the food and service seemed even better last night. Wow...what a meal! After receiving our cocktails, we started in with appetizers. A couple of us had the octopus, others had the crab cake, and lobster bisque. I forgot just how good the octopus was, it was amazing! Grilled to perfection. Our entrees ranged from filets, veal Oscar, and ribeye steak. We all thought it was one of the best meals we've had. Of all the local NJ restaurants, Barka is certainly near the top in this high end category. The only reason I didn't give the 5 stars is that it was extremely hot in the restaurant. Uncomfortably hot. Just need to take a look at that AC!
